Orion: Galaxy Explorer | Information about the next update


Hello ! Small debrief to keep you informed of the progress:

 - star systems now generate several planets, between 1 and 10, with a rarity level from Common to Legendary (another will come later). This rarity level will change the quality of the deposit and the profit. Since these changes were made to the game, the database has grown enormously in size and it took me a long time to optimize its reading. The good news is that now the reading speed is better than before.

- the procedural generation of stars across the galaxy has been completely reworked, which now allows a more homogeneous distribution. In addition, the player's starting point is now forced into a dense region to play with enough stars.

- the rarest solar systems are now more likely to generate rare planets whose deposits are more expensive.

- colonization has been optimized, which allows a massive number of colonies without having a drop in FPS (or a very small drop). The last stresstest gave about 12000 colonies, and I could still continue.

- the map now shows the colonized regions. You will be able to give yourself the goal to colonize every region of the galaxy this way (I promise, I'm still looking for a solution to quickly colonize ALL SYSTEMS)

- the construction UI now displays all the planets of the current system, and even allows you to quickly orient the camera to find the planet you want

- new buttons on the main UI allow to zoom quickly between Galaxy view, Navigation view and Star view.

- as a lot of optimization has been done on the CPU, I tested without any problem navigation distances 3 times higher than usual. This will allow later on to navigate between stars on very long distance, to reach the farthest stars by increasing the navigation radius with upgrade objects without heavily impacting the performance of the game engine (and I'm also thinking about reintroducing a system I created earlystage to move with WASD between stars, but it could create some game design problems)

- the first playable captain has been revealed by Vaelynn in the work-in-progress channel, she will be added in the next version in a visual way only but will have a use in the next update!

- many other small aspects modified or completely reworked

I think that after this update, I will release my updates little by little instead of all at once. This project is still in its starting phase, the foundations need time and it's a huge construction site. Don't forget to follow the project on Discord so you don't miss anything!
